On 29 March 2006, BIOTEC hosted the visit of the BIOTEC International Advisory Board (IAB). The visit also marked the 1st Meeting of the BIOTEC International Advisory Board. Presentations given to the Board members included "Thailand S&T Development and the Challenging Role of NSTDA" by Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, NSTDA President and “BIOTEC: Past Performance and Future Outlook” by Prof. Morakot Tanticharoen, BIOTEC Director. There was an exchange of views, resulting in a number of advices and recommendations for BIOTEC to better serve the country and play a vital role in the region.

BIOTEC Board members also participated in the NSTDA Annual Conference 2006 (NAC 2006) on 30 March 2006.  In the NAC 2006 event, the Board members were given an opportunity to introduce their organizations to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who graciously presided over the NAC 2006 Opening Ceremony.  Prof. Ken-ichi Arai, Chairman of BIOTEC IAB and Prof. Anthony Turner presented two keynote lectures in the presence of HRH Princess on the topics "New Horizons in Genomic Medicine and Personalized Health Care Sciences: Thailand and Asian Perspectives” and “The Role of Biosensors in Enhancing Economic Wellbeing and the Quality of Life”, respectively.

Also engaged in the discussion with specific groups of Thai scientists were Dr. Zhai Huqu who presented a talk on Agricultural Development in China, Prof. Mauro Giacca who gave a talk on R&D on Human Gene Therapy and Dr. Jill Conley who met and discussed with immunologists in Thailand.
