Vietnam-Thailand Workshop on A/H5N1 Avian Influenza in Vietnam and Thailand: Experience and Directions for Control, Diagnosis and Vaccines

On 27 July 2006, Dr. Prasit Palittapongarnpim, BIOTEC Deputy Director and Program Director of Emerging Diseases Program, led a team of Thai scientists from BIOTEC and universities, to participate in the Vietnam-Thailand Workshop on A/H5N1 Avian Influenza in Vietnam and Thailand: Experience and Directions for Control, Diagnosis and Vaccines in Hanoi, Vietnam.  This event was part of the celebration commemorating the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Vietnam.

Initiated from the Workshop was a collaborative agreement with the Institute of Biotechnology on 5 areas related to Avian Influenza:

  1. working database
  2. networking for molecular evolution of avian influenza virus/ serological diagnostic
  3. commercialization of diagnostic kit
  4. development of reverse genetics technology / DIVA strategy for development of seed vaccine
  5. study of migratory bird & wild life
