Collaborative MOU between BIOTEC and Vinh University, Vietnam

On 5 October 2006, BIOTEC and Vinh University, Vietnam signed a Research & Training Collaborative MOU. Representing Vinh University is Dr. Tran Ngoc Lan, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery. The collaboration will focus on the following areas:

  1. Diagnostic kit development for plant and marine (PCR and monoclonal antibody  technology)
  2. Molecular breeding of rice
  3. Plant transformation
  4. FISH technologies

The MOU signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the 1-month Training Course on the “Operation and Utilization of Laboratory Equipment” that BIOTEC customized for staff of Vinh University throughout the month of October 2006 in Thailand. This Training Course is a part of the Vietnamese Higher Education Project sponsored by the World Bank. The purpose of this Course is to understand the operational and utilization of today’s laboratory equipment which is important for laboratory technicians and lecturers for providing accurate research results. The customized Course focuses on 4 specific areas:

  1. Analyze soil, water and chemical using chromatography equipment
  2. Analyze soil, water and chemical using spectral equipment
  3. Study chemico-physiology, and genetics equipment
  4. Study microorganism, and animal, plant disease equipment
