Regional Workshop on Food Traceability and Food Safety under the Thai - French Trilateral Cooperation


Realizing the potential likelihood of international incidents involving contaminated food and creating an increasing demand for food safety among countries in this region, BIOTEC, Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, French Embassy and Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique Pour le Développement (CIRAD) conceptualized this workshop to address food safety issues along with food production and control. The workshop was recently held on 28 November - 1 December 2006 at Thailand Science Park. A number of participants were 35 from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam (CLMV), and Thailand, of which 22 overseas participants were fully sponsored by Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) and French Embassy.

In this workshop, participants learned the basic principle of food safety and the up-to-date information about EU regulations, focusing on traceability. Methods to detect salmonella in food were taught with hands-on lab practice.  A visit to Kamphaeng – saen Commercial Co., Ltd. Thailand, top exporter of safe and clean fresh vegetables and fruit was made on the last day.
