Hands-on Training Workshop “Biosafety and Risk Management in Agricultural Biotechnology”

BIOTEC in collaboration with National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) organized a workshop on Biosafety and Risk Management in Agricultural Biotechnology on 20 - 21 December 2006 at Thailand Science Park.

The workshop was divided into 3 sections: Technical Session, Case Study Exercise and Lecture. Technical session, covered the topics such as Methodology for Biotechnology Risk Assessment, Scientific Issue for Environment Risk Assessment, and Risk Management in the Laboratory and Greenhouse. In addition, the participants learned from case study exercise on cassava and papaya presented by special resource persons such as Prof. Dr. Richard Sayre from Ohio State University, Dr. Tawee Sangtong and Dr. Methinee Srivatanakul from Thailand's Department of Agriculture. Special lectures were also provided with interesting related topics, for instance, An Update on a Recent Development of Biosafety Legislation of Thailand, and Communicating about Risk Biosafety.
