On 18 January 2007, BIOTEC organized a forum on Recent Advances on Shrimp Biotechnology Research. Guest speakers were Dr. Craig Browdy from Waddell Mariculture Center, Marine Resources Research Institute, South Carolina and Dr. Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip from Center of Excellence for Shrimp Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CENTEX Shrimp), BIOTEC.
Dr. Browdy started off the forum with an overview on recent advancement made in shrimp mariculture technologies at the Waddell Mariculture Center. Following Dr. Browdy was Dr. Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip who talked about PmRAB7 which is a VP28-binding protein involved in white spot syndrome virus infection in shrimp. Dr. Browdy finished off the forum with the lecture on "Application of advanced genetic approaches and controlled bioassay systems to improved understanding of shrimp immune response to microbial pathogens". The forum was well attended by local researchers, drawing in about 100 audiences.
