BIOTEC in conjunction with Korean Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Thai Society for Biotechnology (TSB), Korea Bio Venture Association (KOBIOVEN) and JS Global Enterprise Sdn Bhd. hosted “Thailand – Korea BioBusiness Forum” on 21 March 2007 at Siam City Hotel, Bangkok. The objectives of this forum are to expand global business opportunity and to have more active exchange activity on technology between Thailand and Korea.
Bioindustry, due to its high added value, has been established as one of next generation leading industries along with IT industry. The potentially enormous market has thus attracted a significant amount of attention from various types of investors, and also opened up enormous opportunity for research collaboration.
The forum comprised of the overview presentations of Korea Bio Industry, National Biotechnology Policy and BIOTEC, The Investment Opportunity for Biotechnology Business in Thailand and Regional Technology Transfer Center in Korea. Moreover, there were bioindustry presentations from six Korean companies, namely 1) BIONEER Co., Ltd., 2) ISTECH Co., Ltd. 3) Cell Biotech Co., Ltd. 4) BioMax Co., Ltd. 5) BIOR&Ds Co., Ltd. and 6) KOREABIO Co., Ltd. Following the presentations, Korean and Thai company representatives attended a one-on-one business discussion. The Forum drew great interest from Thai research and bioindustry communities, with 100 participants accounting for 36 companies and 7 academic and research instititutes.

On 22 March 2007, Korean delegation paid a visit to Thailand Science Park, where they were shown the research facility of BIOTEC housing Bioresource Utilization Program, Bioinformatics Server, Drug Target Research Lab, Plant Physiology Lab and Food Biotechnology for instance. In addition, the group visited biotech companies and other research institutes located in the incubators and pilot plants, such as Alltech Asia-Pacific Biosciences Centre, Thai Traditional Medicine and Herbal Development Center, Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus Pilot Plant for Insect Pest Control and Stem Cell for Life.
