BIOTEC kicked off the Human Resource Development Program in Biotechnology 2007 with the Opening Ceremony on 4 July 2007 at Thailand Science Park. This warm ceremony was attended by distinguished and honor guests from Myanmar Embassy; Vietnamese Embassy; Malaysian Embassy; Lao Embassy; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Bangkok Office; Osaka University, Bangkok Center; Asian Society for Environmental Protection (ASEP); Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) and The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). In this year, twelve participants were selected from Myanmar, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Mongolia. Under the Program, trainees will be spending time ranging from three to six months in the laboratories at BIOTEC Central Research Unit under the close guidance of BIOTEC research team. In addition to building up strong research skill for trainees to further their educational and research endeavor, the Program provides opportunity for scientists from Asian countries to share their knowledge and culture among one another.
This is the 7th year that BIOTEC operates this training program. So far, this program has been participated by 60 trainees out of 226 applicants. The success of this program showed that at least eleven trainees out of 60 won scholarships to further their education abroad ranging from Canadian INRS fellowship, Japanese Government (MEXT), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), New Zealand's International Aid and Development Agency and etc.
