BIOTEC hosts ASEAN Workshop on Reverse Genetics-Based Vaccines for Avian Influenza

On 21-22 January 2008, BIOTEC hosted the ASEAN Workshop on Reverse Genetics-Based Vaccines for Avian Influenza. This event was organized under the framework of ASEAN Subcommittee on Biotechnology (SCB), with objectives to 1) share current status of avian influenza, in particular on vaccine research, in each member nations of ASEAN, to scientists on vaccine research in member countries, 2) update ASEAN scientists on the recent advancement made on reverse genetic technology by international experts, 3) formulate research and technical collaboration among ASEAN member countries.

The event was attended by representatives from 8 ASEAN member countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and two experts from the US: Dr. Kanta Subbarao from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID-NIH) and Dr. Richard J. Webby from Department of Infectious Diseases of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
