On 7 October 2008, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) held an MOU signing ceremony on Technology Licensing Agreement of the microtube gel test kit with Khon Kaen University and Innov (Thailand) Co., Ltd.  Microtube gel test kit is used in a broad range of blood bank applications, including antibody screening and identification of blood grouping for instance.  The prototype of this kit was developed by a research team at Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Amornrat Romphruk, with a research grant provided by BIOTEC in 2004.  The prototype has been successfully tested at Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen and is now ready for commercialization to help offset the cost of imported products costing 1.7 – 2.0 Million Baht per 100,000 samplings. The test kit has been licensed to Innov (Thailand) Co., Ltd. for local commercialization and is expected to go on sale in neighboring countries.
