A paper titled “Thailand Biotech Business: Product of the National Policy” is now published in the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology in Advance Online Publication (AOP) service.
The paper summarizes the progress in Thailand Biotech Industry as a result of the Thailand's National Biotechnology Policy Framework initiated in 2004. The Framework acts as a catalyst to enhance industrial productivity and sustainability with the six goals are identified in the national policy framework. The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) is creating a positive environment for local and international industries and providing maximum benefit privileges to biotechnology-related investments. Currently, there are 50 new emerging biotechnology companies in Thailand. Government agencies and universities also provide supporting services to stimulate biotechnology businesses. R&D infrastructures such as Biopark in the expansion phase of Thailand Science Park will be operational in 2010. The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), and the BOI under the direction of the Ministry of Industry are major agencies committed to strengthening Thailand's competitiveness in biotechnology.
