Rural Schools Science Project Contest

BIOTEC organized the Rural Schools Science Project Contest on 27 – 29 November 2008 at the Thailand Science Park, with participation of 280 students and teachers. A total of 56 selected projects from 58 high schools were presented in this Contest. The event is part of the Rural Schools Science Project under the theme “Science for Good Health” with THB 8.5 million funding support from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The project commenced in July 2007 and will be completed at the end of December 2008. Within the past 1.5 years, BIOTEC organized science camp in 117 schools in rural area, not only to provide some basic knowledge on healthcare such as medical care, food and environment but also to stimulate science learning among students.   Over 500 science projects have been performed by 2,000 students and teachers participating in this project.

A teacher from Kamphaengphet Province said that the project is very beneficial in that it helps students improve their science thinking skills.  A group of students from Taongoi Pattanasuksa School in Sakon Nakhorn said the project helps students to learn from their peers, and to adapt science to their daily lives. It also helps to increase their experience in science.
