BIOTEC welcomes 14 overseas researchers under HRD Program in Biotechnology 2009

On 3 July 2009, BIOTEC held an Opening Ceremony of the Human Resource Development Program in Biotechnology 2009 to welcome 14 researchers from neighboring countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam. The main objective of the program is to use Thailand and its experts as a training ground for research scientists from developing countries in the Asia Pacific region in the area of biotechnology. The program will not only upgrade the research manpower in this region, but also foster the linkage among individual researchers and research institutes, leading to long-term research collaboration.

Under this Program, trainees will spend their time ranging from three to six months in the BIOTEC laboratories under the close guidance of BIOTEC research team. Apart from working in the individual lab, trainees will get to do activities as a group such as visits to other research institutes and companies, as well as participating in a cultural site visit.

Over 8 years of operation, 86 trainees have participated in the Program. The survey conducted on past alumni has demonstrated the success of the program. At least twenty five trainees were able to obtain scholarships to further their education outside their home countries such as Australia, Austria, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, the Philippines and USA. Some of them have made progress in their research career.
