NSTDA announces a new joint venture on Thailand’s first fermentation plant for animal feed production.

On 20 November 2009, NSTDA together with Nitikarnchana Group, whose business involves pig farm operation and animal feed production, and a group of researchers from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) entered in an MOU to set up S P M Science Co. Ltd., Thailand’s first fermentation plant for animal feed production.

The fermentation plant is located in Ratchaburi Province and will launch the operation in December 2009. The microbe used for SPM products is Bacillus subtilis, which was selected, studied and scaled up by BIOTEC Food Biotechnology Laboratory and KMUTT.

S P M Science is registered with a 100 million capital, 49% of which are provided by NSTDA Investment Center (NIC). Products will be available in three forms: namely dry supplement, wet bacteria and dry bacteria.

It is expected that this new venture will gain about 10-20% market share of feed additive microbes valued at 900 million Baht/year.
