BIOTEC/NSTDA to collaborate with Department of Medical Science and KMUTT on the production of vaccine and bio-pharmaceuticals

On 26 August 2010, NSTDA in association with King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc) aiming at promoting cooperation in research and development in medical science, vaccine production, bio-medical product and drug compounds.

According to the MOU, each party will utilize its respective research experiences, expertise, human resources and state-of-the-art research facilities to develop a long-term collaboration on medical science and pharmaceutical research in an effort to create the nation’s self-dependence on drug and vaccine production and to minimize the importation of such materials.

The new Biopharmaceutical cGMP Pilot Plant facility, scheduled to start the operation in March 2011 at the Bangkuntien campus of KMUTT, will serve as an excellent platform for the collaboration.  The collaboration will extend to capacity building and human resource development in the area of bioprocess, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), quality control and quality assurance. In addition, DMSc also plans to set up a vaccine pilot plant on this campus.
