BIOTEC entrusted by NRCT to strengthen capacity of Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBCs)

With several years of biosafety experience, BIOTEC has been entrusted by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) to implement a project to build up capacity of Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBC) for a period of seven months from February to September 2011.

IBCs were established in various research and academic institutes throughout Thailand to supervise the internal research in laboratory and greenhouse to comply with the Biosafety Guidelines for Research and Development, developed by Technical Biosafety Committee (TBC) with BIOTEC as its Secretariat. Currently, there are 35 IBCs scattering in four regions of Thailand. As the national coordinator of IBCs, BIOTEC continually facilitates the technical capacity of these IBCs through the training and dissemination of information.

In order to strengthen capacity building to all 35 IBCs, NRCT provided financial support to BIOTEC to set up the 2011 training of human resource development for IBC network. With the support, BIOTEC in collaboration with IBC’s nodes, will develop training curriculum, and organize practical hands-on training workshops for using the Guidelines to IBCs covering four regions of Thailand. The workshops will be held in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Bangkok and Songkhla Provinces commencing from April onwards.
