On 15 December 2011, Chemistry World, a news magazine by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), published an interview article of Prof. Yongyuth Yuthavong, former BIOTEC Executive Director and Founding President of NSTDA about his opinion in R&D in Thailand and the development of novel antimalarial agents.
In his interview, Prof. Yongyuth discussed about the challenges he faced serving as the first President of NSTDA during 1992-1998 and the Minister of Science and Technology in 2006-2008 and also what the future hold forscience in Thailand. He recounted his team’s discovery of the structure of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase-thymidylate synthase, which led to the design of new drugs that would avert the effect of mutation.
