NSTDA, Thailand is their first destination. The visit program on 23 February 2012 consisted of an opening remark and overview of S&T in Thailand by Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, President of NSTDA and Dr. Noppawan Tanpipat, NSTDA Vice President, respectively, followed by 12 presentations by NSTDA researchers on selected research activities.
Representing BIOTEC were Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Dr. Samaporn Teeravechyan and Dr. Darin Kongkasuriyachai from Bioresources Technology Unit, Virology and Cell Technology Laboratory and Protein-Ligand Engineering and Molecular Biology Laboratory respectively. BIOTEC’s presentations focused on Exploring Thailand’s microbial bioresources for sustainable bio-industries, Development of VSV-based vaccines against Newcastle disease virus, and Biotechnology for antimalarial drug discovery.
Selected from leading S&T publishers, the eight journalists taking part in the program can ultimately contribute to the perceptions of Southeast Asia as a highly dynamic region and communicate to the research community and wider public not only existing achievements in EU-SEA S&T cooperation but also opening for opportunities in the future.
