August 17th marked the return of National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF), Thailand’s largest science and technology annual festival aiming to promote public understanding and awareness of science and technology to Thai young people. The festival is held every year in August in correspondence with the “National Science Day” on 18 August with the components of exhibition, edutainment experience, and seminar, arranged through the extensive cooperation from public and private, local and international sectors.
BIOTEC takes part in organizing the exhibition under the theme "Biocontrol". Variety of BIOTEC research works on biological control of pests are presented to the visitors such as the use of Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) to control beet armyworms, Beauveria bassiana fungus to control insect pests in cassava, brown plant hoppers in rice, and the use of Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria to control mosquito larvae. The information is displayed through models of insects, so the visitor can learn about their nature and effects on agriculture products.
