BIOTEC and NSTDA showcased highlights of its rice research program at the National Rice and Farmers Day 2013, held during 5 - 7 June 2013 at the Rice Department, Bangkok. The opening ceremony on 5 June 2013 was graciously presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
On display at BIOTEC’s exhibition were several new improved rice varieties such as RD6 (blast and bacterial blight resistance), IR57514 (flash flooding tolerance) and Chai Nat 1 (brown planthopper resistance). Apart from BIOTEC research, NECTEC also displayed mobile applications designed for farmers’s use such as BaiKhaoNK (an application that helps estimate the amount of N fertilizer required in a rice field by measuring the color level of a rice leaf), mobile GAP assessment, Fertilizer Mixing Calculator and LOGGER READER (an application providing information on weather conditions).
National Rice and Farmers' Day is annually organized by the Rice Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, in collaboration with the Thai Rice Foundation under Royal Patronage, Kasetsart University, Ministry of Commerce and Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.
