BIOTEC convenes the 1st ASEAN Microbial Biotechnology Conference 2014 (AMBC2014)

The 1stASEAN Microbial Biotechnology Conference 2014 (AMBC2014) was held during 19-21 February 2014 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC),aiming to share research experience and update technology on development and utilization of microbes for biotechnological application as well as to strengthen collaborative network in microbial biotechnology research among ASEAN countries with their international partners.
Content seminar
The Conference covered the topics of microbial technology in various aspects, namely agriculture biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, biorefinery, biofertilizer, medical biotechnology, biodiversity, environmental biotechnology and bioinformatics.  Over two hundred speakers and participants attended the Conference, from 17 different countries such as Thailand, Australia, USA, Canada, China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Philippines. Three poster awards were presented to the following posters: 
  • “Multi-polysaccharide degrading enzyme system for saccharification of lignocellulosic substrates” by Miss Surisa Suwannarangsee, BIOTEC, Thailand
  • “In vivo protective property of tomato phylloplane bacteria against a pectinolytic phytopathogen” by Miss Bea Mateo, University of Santo Tomas, the Philippines
  • “Degradation of three polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by moderately halophilic bacteria from Luzon salterns” by Miss Carolyn L. Nanca, University of Santo Tomas, the Philippines.
Poster Content
The 2nd ASEAN Microbial Biotechnology Conference (AMBC) will be hosted by Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia in 2016.
