On 5 March 2014, the opening ceremony of 2014 Human Resource Development Program in Biotechnology for ASEAN Member Countries was organized at BIOTEC, Thailand Science Park to welcome 8 young researchers from Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia. Giving the opening remark at the ceremony was Dr. Sirawut Klinbunga, Director of Agricultural Biotechnology Research Unit. In the event, there were presentations covering the topics of organization introduction from each participant and also lectures by BIOTEC researchers on various fields of biotechnology in order to lay scientific foundation relating to lab training topics for the trainees.
With the aim to build up R&D capability in developing countries in ASEAN region, this program has been offering young researchers the short-term training courses: a three-month fundamental course and a six-month advanced course. During the training period, all young researchers will be trained in the laboratories under the close guidance of BIOTEC research teams. Topics offered this year include plant molecular genetics, aquatic molecular genetics and biotechnology, validation of drug targets and nanobiosensors, for instance.
