Dr. Chalermpol Kirdmanee, Head of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Laboratory, was honored with the SCG Chair Professor Scholarship in the ceremony held on 11 December 2014 at SCG Headquarters in Bangkok.
Dr. Chalermpol completed a doctoral degree in horticultural engineering from Chiba University in 1995 and has since been working at BIOTEC as a researcher. His expertise in the environmental control engineering in tissue culture is well recognized in Thailand and abroad. He was presented with the Young Scientist Award in 1999 by the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, and was among three non-Japanese researchers receiving the Japan International Awards for Young Agricultural Researchers in 2007, the first year such an award was conferred by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. For over a decade, Dr. Chalermpol has been working on rehabilitating saline land in the northeastern part of Thailand using the combination of identified salt-tolerant crops from his laboratory and an application of soil treatment with organic and mineral supplement. The project has been well supported by a number of public and private organizations, including SCG.
