Dr. Piti Amparyup, BIOTEC Researcher from Aquatic Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, was presented with the 2016 Thailand Frontier Researcher Award in the field of Plant and Animal Science, held on 25 August 2016 at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok.
Dr. Piti was honored for his research on “Prophenoloxidase system and its role in shrimp immune response against major pathogens”. In this study, he performed a knowledge discovering model of the Melanization by prophenoloxidase (proPO) activation cascade-mediated melanization in shrimp Penaeus monodon, based on the data derived from gene knockdown and biochemical experiments. The knowledge gained from this research will be useful for a better understanding of the shrimp immunity and can be applied for disease control of shrimp aquaculture.
The recipients of the 2016 Thailand Frontier Researcher Awards are chosen on the basis of their contribution to emerging research areas (research fronts), as determined by Thomson Reuters (ISI Web of Science).
