BIOTEC by the Thailand Bioresource Research Center (TBRC) organized the International Curator Lecture and Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Management of Microbial Resources on during March 7 – 9, 2017 at the Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel and the Thailand Science Park. The Workshop was held with the aims to promote bioresource utilization for fast growing bioeconomy to alleviate poverty and improve human welfare in Thailand and ASEAN by identifying the key roles and management systems of bioresource research centers and possible contribution in development of bioeconomy in such regions as well as to strengthen national and international Bioresource Research Center (BRC) network.
The Curator Course has been organized annually with specific theme each year by the TBRC in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology and Evaluations (NITE), Japan since 2013. This Course is basically held to encourage all Thai researchers who work on the management of biological resources and information to use this event as a platform to practice and learn new technology. However, last year, this Course had been expanded to include the ASEAN researchers to join the series of lecture and lab session as well. This year, the theme is "Emerging Technologies and Management of Microbial Resources" presented by the international speakers from NITE, the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC), World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM), Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS), ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI)-A*STAR, and Chulalongkorn University. Over 55 participants participated in the lecture session while the lab session was attended by 13 attendees.
The 2017 International Curator Lecture and Workshop is a part of the ASEAN Next 2017: Creating Smart Community through STI Collaboration organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology during March 6 – 10, 2017.
