Objectives and Goals

Support Basic Research and study in the areas in which there are already strong on-going activities, e.g. clinical trials for drug candidates, natural product research.
Strengthen capability in those areas in which there is distinct need for more researchers, expertise and know-how or improvement of infrastructure. Such areas include molecular modelling, the art of de novo synthesis of receptors, medical chemistry, biological activities screening, and pharmacological studies (i.e. toxicity tests, mechanism of drug action, and pharmacokinetics).
Initiate the start up of novel research areas which are important and will have direct impact on the success of the programme such as combinatorial synthesis and high-throughput screening for drug activities.

Four objectives are set out to meet the above goals:

• Support Research to Develop Medical Products such as new drug, new diagnostic kits for rapid and accurate diagnosis and, potentially, new effective vaccines against tropical diseases
• Support Basic Research for New Knowledge, which would be evident in the form of publications, patents, and technical know-how
• Strengthen Collaborations between Thai and foreign scientists by supporting exchange of investigators and to promote their training in specialized fields in Thailand and abroad
• Develop Human Resource by encourage scientists to accomplish specific goals which would build up their capabilities and fortify their career patterns
