The 23rd Annual Meeting of the Thai Society for Biotechnology “Systems Biotechnology: Quality & Success”


The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University in partnership with the Thai Society for Biotechnology (TSB), BIOTEC and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) will organize the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Thai Society for Biotechnology “Systems Biotechnology: Quality & Success” on 27-28 October 2011 at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. This year the meeting will be hosted by the Department of Biotechnology, Mahidol University on the occasion of 30th anniversary of the Department.

In the meeting, TSB2011 will serve as a venue for presentation of various topics in biotechnology, namely Food Biotechnology and Food Safety; Bioprocess and Industrial Biotechnology; Nano and Analytical Biotechnology; Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biotechnology; Agricultural Biotechnology and Agroindustry; Microbial Biotechnology and Biotransformation; Pharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology; Biorefinery and Biofuel; and Environmental Biotechnology and Bioremediation. In addition, JSPS-NRCT-NSTDA Joint Meeting, International Cassava Research Symposium 2011 and Tokyo Tech-MU Joint Meeting will also be organized concurrently.

TSBKeynote_SpeakersKeynote lectures will include different aspects of systems biotechnology such as “Improving photosynthetic efficiency for greater yields” by Prof. Xinguang Zhu, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; “Manipulation of secondary metabolism for obtaining novel bioactive compounds” by Prof. Takuya Nihira, Osaka University, Japan; “Cassava wealth-plus, opportunities and challenges” by Dr. Manabu Ishitani, International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), Colombia; “A systems approach for health management in shrimp aquaculture” by Prof. Timothy W. Flegel, Centex Shrimp, BIOTEC and “Development and applications of "Word processing technology" for editing the yeast genome” by Prof. Satoshi Harashima, Osaka University, Japan.

Beside of the scientific areas from five keynote speakers, “Strategy for biotechnology development in Thailand for the next decade (2012-2021)” will be unveiled in this meeting by Prof. Dr. Amaret Bhumiratana, the Chairman of the Steering Committee on the Thailand's National Biotechnology Policy Framework 2012-2021.
