NSTDA Annual Conference 2012 (NAC2012)

National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) held its annual conference (NAC2012) at Thailand Science Park from 24 – 28 March 2012 under a theme “S&T Knowledge: Key to Effective Disaster Response”.  The opening ceremony of NAC2012 was graciously presided over by H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 23 March 2012.

NAC2012 activities covered an exhibition on highlight NSTDA research and scientific seminars aiming to unveil the advancement of various technologies and present innovative products and knowledge for effective response in the time of natural disaster.
 
Interesting topics in the seminars included water resource management, lesson and opportunities arising from disaster in food and agriculture, disaster management with collective intelligence, and biological waste and wastewater treatment, for instance.

In the exhibition zone, BIOTEC displayed an integrated technology for soil salinity treatment, the role of microorganisms in flood water treatment, multiplex-LAMP technology for bovine embryo sex determination, Thai Science Biodiversity: an integrated database on biodiversity resources, and rice biotechnology.

Several of BIOTEC innovations were presented in the investor zone, namely: ENZbleach: An alkaline-tolerant enzyme for pulp bleaching process, continuous microalgal culture system, portable testing equipment for heavy metal in environment and industrial waste, breath analyzer for diabetes, and antimalarial drug counterfeit testing kit.

NAC2012 visitors also had an opportunity to tour BIOTEC research facility.  Eight laboratories opened their labs to the public.
