Open Lab Activity: Shrimp Biotechnology Business Unit (SBBU)

BIOTEC welcomed representatives from cold storage industry, shrimp and fisheries exporters to an “Open Lab: Shrimp Biotechnology Business Unit (SBBU)” on 14 May 2013. Open lab activity is organized regularly to invite selected industry sectors to meet with BIOTEC research team and visit research facility to encourage public-private partnership and collaboration.

This Open Lab received attention from several leading companies such as Chaiwarut Cold Storage Co., Ltd., SyAqua Siam Co., Ltd., Asia Star Lab Co., Ltd., Thai Royal Frozen Food Co., Ltd., Pattana Seafood Co., Ltd., Pack Food Public Co., Ltd. and Thoyod Suparoj Co., Ltd. The program consisted of an overview of NSTDA Shrimp Research Program, a presentation on technical and analytical services as well as shrimp disease diagnostic products available at SBBU, a visit to research facility of SBBU and a one-on-one meeting between company and BIOTEC research team.

Shrimp Biotechnology Business Unit (SBBU) was established by BIOTEC in 1999 to provide expertise and facilities to develop the commercial potential of shrimp industry for both public and private sectors as well as distribute commercial research products and service, for examples, diagnostics kits, disease diagnostic services including contract research project on shrimp to general markets.
