Rationale 

As Thailand is one of the agricultural countries of the world, and cassava and starch have been playing an important role of Thai export market.Moreover, they are utilized in many industries specifically in food & beverage, non-food such as paper & textile, feed and biofuel. The Starch Update international conference is a bi-annually event implemented by National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), originally with the purpose to serve as a catalyst to enhance the development of starch technology. It is furthermore designed to increase the competency of starch industry by connecting scientists, technologists and industrialists from both locally and internationally. The 9th Starch Update 2017 is duly scheduled to recognize the strong connections among the interested groups.

In the occasion that NSTDA will hold an International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Bioeconomy 2017 (AGBIO2017)” during 27 February – 2 March 2017 at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok, Thailand. Its theme majorly focuses on plant’s roles in future in terms of Bioeconomy and sustainability. As cassava is one of important economic crops that can serve as feedstock for bioeconomy economically and sustainably, the 9th Starch Update 2017 is organized during 27-28 February 2017, concurrently alongside with AGBIO2017. The two international conferences involving in the agricultural researches and industries will rapidly synergistically support and provide innovative facilities.

The program of The Starch Update 2017 consists of keynote & plenary speakers as well as oral and poster presentation sessions. The topic to be covered during the conference will include Starch properties/ analysis, Starch processing, Starch modification and Starch application
