Votive figures are small statues that are often used in religious or spiritual practices as offerings to deities, spirits, or ancestors. For many Thais, spirits are part of everyday life, and are even seen as a gateway to prosperity or a source of protection. According to Thai belief, if one requests something from a spirit and that wish is granted, one must return to the shrines and offer an offering. For years, zebras have become a popular offering at shrines and spirit houses across the country. However, Mr. Ittipol\u00a0 Promfai, Manager of Forest Friends Project, pointed out that \u201cthe disposal process of these huge amounts of plastering material figures has caused air pollution or PM 2.5 and visual pollution in temples and public spaces\u201d. These issues are sources of inspiration for the collaborative project.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

BIOTEC and Forest Friends Project, in collaboration with Dentsu Creative Thailand, have developed an innovative solution to solve the problem of visual and air pollution caused by traditional votive animal figures in Thailand. BIOTEC\u2019s researcher, Dr. Nattawut Boonyuen, explained that \u201cthe newly designed prototype \u201cZero Pollution Zebra\u201d votive animal figures are products which are environmental-friendly, self-degradable and can turn into soil minerals\u201d. They are made from agricultural waste which is abundant in Thailand.<\/p>

The “Zero Pollution Zebra” project aims to encourage environmental responsibility during the mass manufacturing process of votive figures and similar products. By using agricultural waste to create the votive animal figures, this project aims to set a better standard for similar products in the market and to create a cleaner, more sustainable environment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
