On 13 June 2026, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) hosted an Australian delegation led by Prof. Tony Haymet, Australia’s Chief Scientist.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

Appointed by the Prime Minister of Australia, the Chief Scientist serves as the nation\u2019s highest-level independent advisor on science, technology, and innovation policy, while also acting as the Executive Officer of the National Science and Technology Council. The visit aimed to strengthen Thailand\u2013Australia research collaboration and explore Thailand\u2019s national research infrastructure ecosystem, following the delegation\u2019s visit to the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) Headquarters in Rayong on 12 June.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

The BIOTEC visit showcased Thailand\u2019s integrated national research infrastructure and ongoing research programs in biomanufacturing, animal health, synthetic biology, and sustainable aquaculture.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The program opened with welcoming remarks from Asst. Prof. Dr. Chaowaree Adthalungrong, Executive Director of BIOTEC, who emphasized the importance of international partnerships in advancing scientific innovation and regional sustainability. This was followed by remarks from Prof. Tony Haymet on the role of the Chief Scientist and the objectives of the visit.<\/span><\/p>

Furthermore, the delegation visited the NSTDA Supercomputer Center (ThaiSC) and BIOTEC\u2019s key research infrastructure, including the BIOTEC Bioprocessing Facility (BBF), the Advanced Aquatic Animal BSL2 Laboratory: BSL2, the Thailand Bioresource Research Center (TBRC), the National Biobank of Thailand (NBT), and the National Omics Center (NOC).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The visit highlighted the growing strategic partnership between Thailand and Australia in science, technology, and innovation. Joint initiatives, including the Australia-supported Biologics and Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing in Thailand for Equitable Access to Medicines (BPM-TEAM) project, demonstrate a shared commitment to translating research into real-world impact. Implemented by CSIRO in partnership with BIOTEC, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), and the National Biopharmaceutical Facility at KMUTT, the project aims to strengthen Thailand\u2019s capabilities in pharmaceutical and biologics manufacturing through technology transfer, workforce development, and joint research.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
