Traditional breeding in the form of sexual crossing has been a fundamental method for crop improvement for centuries. However, in the past 15 years, gene transformation plays a crucial role as the alternative approach for crop improvement. Gene transformation introduces new traits by transferring genetically engineered gene into plant to increase disease or insect resistance or to improve nutritional characteristics and agronomic performance.
