Dr. Chairat Uthaipibull

Director, Medical Molecular Biotechnology Research Group

Dr. Chairat Uthaipibull received the Monbusho Japanese Government Scholarship to study for his B.Pharm.Sci and M.Pharm.Sci. at Osaka University, Japan. Awarded a Thai Government scholarship for a Ph.D. training at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and University College London (UCL), United Kingdom, he started his work in the field of malaria vaccine and drug research. He was actively involved in the international collaborative networks, such as e-Asia, WHO/TDR South-South Initiatives for Tropical Disease Research, and WHO/TDR Transfection Network of which he has trained post-graduate students and postdoctoral scientists from disease endemic countries.
 
His current research interest focuses on the mechanism of drug resistance, novel drug target discovery through functional genomic approaches, and novel antimalarial drug development. He published over 30 articles in international academic medical journals, and won an award for his Medical Science thesis from the National Research Council of Thailand in 2004 and excellent research awards in the field of Medical Science from the same institute in 2016 and 2017.
He joined BIOTEC in 1996 as a researcher and became the Director of the Medical Molecular Biotechnology Research Group in 2019.
