BIOTEC Hosts President of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (BAAFS) for Collaboration Discussions

On 15 December 2025, at Thailand Science Park, Pathum Thani – The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) welcomed a delegation from the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (BAAFS), People’s Republic of China, led by Prof. Jiye Yan, President of BAAFS.

The visit included discussions on research collaboration in agricultural sciences, covering plant genetics, biocontrol technologies, biodiversity, aquaculture technologies, and animal vaccine development, as well as visits to relevant laboratories.

The delegation was welcomed by Assistant Professor Dr. Chaowalee Adthalungrong, Executive Director of BIOTEC. They then received a presentation on the overall research landscape and direction of BIOTEC, given by Dr. Sithichoke Tangphatsornruang, Deputy Executive Director of BIOTEC.

Subsequently, BIOTEC research teams—namely the Veterinary Health Innovation and Management Research Group by Dr. Peera Jaru-ampornpan, the Plant-Microbe Interaction Research Group by Dr. Nattawut Boonyuen, and the Integrative Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Group by Dr. Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip—presented an overview of their research and key achievements. These included the development of a vaccine against African Swine Fever (ASF), the study of fungal biodiversity, and the development of innovations to combat antibiotic resistance (AMR) in aquaculture. This was followed by a discussion on potential collaboration between BIOTEC and BAAFS.

The delegation also visited the Plant-Microbe Interaction Research Laboratory and key research infrastructure facilities at BIOTEC, including the Plant Factory for precision agriculture, Thailand Bioresource Research Center (TBRC), National Omics Center (NOC), and the National Bioresource Research Center (NBT).

This visit represents a significant opportunity to strengthen collaboration in research, innovation development, researcher exchange, technology transfer and the development of international and regional projects, especially within the context of ASEAN and Mekong Subregion. This will help further solidify and enhance the relationship and collaboration between the two institutions in the long term.
