Dr. Kobporn Boonnak is currently an assistant professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Mahidol University, Thailand. She earned her Bachelor of Science at Chiang Mai Univerity in 1996, M.Sc in Immunology in 2000 and PhD in Medical Microbiology in 2008 both from Mahidol University, Thailand. Her thesis work, which was conducted at the U.S. Military HIV research program, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, demonstrated the potential of dendritic cells, monocytes and macrophages as the major targets for dengue virus infection under antibody dependent enhancement conditions. After completing her PhD, Dr. Boonnak accepted a position as a research fellow at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, USA, where she worked for 5 years. During that time, the main focus of her study was on the immunopathogenesis of influenza virus infection and live attenuated influenza vaccine development. Dr. Boonnak joined the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University in 2014. She has started her own research by integrating her knowledge and experience in viral immunology in order to strengthen the research quality of viral vaccine research in Thailand. Dr. Boonnak has several publications in leading scientific peer reviewed journals, such as Vaccine, Journal of Virology, Journal of Immunology, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Lancet Infectious Diseases.
