Professor Venugopal Nair OBE is the Head of the Viral Oncogenesis group & the OIE Reference Laboratory on Marek’s disease. He has a long-standing interest in herpesvirus pathogenesis and herpesvirus-host interactions and development of recombinant herpesvirus vaccine vectors. Prof. Nair also holds Visiting Professorships at the Department of Zoology, Oxford (https://www.zoo.ox.ac.uk/people/view/nair_v.htm), Imperial College London (https://www1.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/people/v.nair), University of Liverpool (https://www.liv.ac.uk/infection-and-global-health/staff/) and is also a Jenner Institute Investigator (https://www.jenner.ac.uk/jenner-researchers/researcher/venugopal-nair). Recently, he was awarded the Royal Society International Professorship jointly with Prof. Jae Yong Han, at Seoul National University (https://www.jenner.ac.uk/jenner-researchers/researcher/venugopal-nair). His group has carried out extensive research into the molecular mechanisms of virus-induced cancers to gain insights into the viral gene functions and their interactions with the host cell in driving neoplastic transformation. The analysis of the dynamic changes of the epigenomes, non-coding RNAs, transcriptomes and the proteomes of virus-induced cancer cells has helped to develop an integrated profile of the molecular events in neoplastic transformation. He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and written several book chapters on avian oncogenic viruses.
