Tarit Mukhopadhyay

Tarit is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemical Engineering at University College London, (UCL). 

He conducted his doctorate in a joint venture between UCL and the Health Protection Agency, Porton Down, working on 2 vaccines of commercial interest, a novel Meningitis B vaccine based upon the outer membrane proteins of N.lactamica and the UK licensed Anthrax vaccine.

Shortly after completing his doctorate he was appointed lecturer in the Department of Biochemical Engineering, UCL, where he heads up vaccine bioprocess research and has an interest in virus vaccines. His past work has been on Japanese Encephalitis virus vaccine, a novel tandem-core virus-like particle based on the Hepatitis B virus and the use of lentiviruses for gene therapy.

A significant research theme are vaccines for global health, and Tarit has several research interests in creating new processes for low-cost and localised manufacture support by the Gates Foundation in collaboration with MIT and the University of Kansas. As part of a Grand Challenges Research Fund grant led by the University of Kent, he is also interested in vaccine manufacturing capacity building in ASEAN markets.
