Dr. Nanchaya Wanasen received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston TX, USA. After receiving her Ph.D., she joined the Virology and Cell Technology Laboratory at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Thailand. Her current research focuses on developing novel vaccines for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and the biology of the viral replication. Her team has established various genetic engineering techniques for PRRSV genome manipulation and is using them to generate PRRSV vaccine candidates. Her group also investigates how host cell factors influence outcomes of virus replication and is currently expanding their research into examining the host immune responses as a way to understand PRRSV infection and improve the vaccine efficacy.
